Kenilworth Castle - Edwardian Garden

This is a plein air painting from September 2021. It was painted on a hot day which created a few challenges. The light was changing so quickly that I took reference photos at around 10am and used those for the tones and shadows. I spent the day moving into the shady spots and watched the light change and the colours of the flowers emerge and disappear. It’s a beautiful corner of the castle and I like the little glimpse of Castle Green through the archway which shows the context of the castle in the town.
